Dissect the beat
The Dissect the Beat show tells the fascinating story of music. Mixing live traditional Scottish music with science, the show explores the underlying physics, neuroscience and psychology of music.
From reading brainwaves using an EEG live on stage to a “mass scale” audience piano and even an ”ear worm” infection (& cure!) experiment, neuroscientist Lewis Hou & musician Andy McLeod explore what it takes for music to get stuck in your head and make you want to dance.
We had a wonderful time visiting schools for Orkney Science Festival in 2015. You can see our evaluation report of our visit here, and a wonderful blog post from Dounby Primary School detailing our visit here. Thank you to all the schools, and the organisers for making us feel once again very welcome, and to the Royal Society of Biology for kindly funding our visit.
We also competed in the world's first Science Show International Cup in Estonia in September 2015 too!
Look out for us in 2016 for some more shows, and we'll be sharing resources all about the science behind music too!

EARWORMS!
Help us find out what the most common "earworms" are...and whether our cure has helped! #dissectbeat
These are the tunes that Orcadian students have reported to be most stuck in their heads
Thank you to the Royal Society of Biology for funding our 2015 visit to Orkney Science Festival.
