An Element of Dance will develop new free creative resources designed for Primary (and transition into S1) exploring real research being done by chemists in Edinburgh.
The resources will take the form of lesson plans ideas, printable or accessible “kitchen sink” activities and videos showcasing a diverse people and applications of chemistry - from it’s links to technology, computers and sustainbility.
Each of the lessons will emphasise creativity and embodied movement, encouraging learners to create something new to consolidate their understanding of the chemistry concepts - be it a dance, game, artwork or poem - highlight interdisciplinary links across STEM.
The project is a partnership with University of Edinburgh School of Chemistry public engagement and widening participation teams. We are delighted to be partnering closely with Bilston Primary, Midlothian, to support the development of these activities with feedback from their learners, teachers and parents, with a community-family celebration ceilidh as part of the International Year of the Periodic Table!
We will also be offering teacher-led CLPL trainings on the materials in Spring 2020 in Midlothian and the activities will be taken across Scotland by the researchers as part of the University of Edinburgh’s Widening Participation schemes. If you are interested in this, or getting involved, please get in touch with the form on the right!
We are still recruiting for chemists who may be interested in getting involved
This programme is kindly funded by the Royal Society of Chemistry Outreach fund.
